Port Prosperity, Gilboa (RKG) – The country of Gilboa unites today in prayer as the fate of King Silas Benjamin has yet to be announced to the public.
The day began with the King's attempt to hand back the northern territories, including the economically viable Port Prosperity, to Gath in an effort to secure the tenuous peace between our long-feuding nations.
But the day ended in tragedy and hysteria as an assassin from the handover ceremony's audience shot both King Silas and Prince Jack and then fired into the crowd, killing three civilians before he was apprehended.
The identity of the assassin has not yet been confirmed, but it is believed that he is a rogue from a Gath opposition group that has been at the helm of various efforts to disrupt the ongoing peace process.
Prince Jack is reportedly in stable condition after suffering a bullet wound to his shoulder.
"It's unbelievable. Just – shocking." The words of the normally articulate Chancellor Marcus Hanson, rendered practically speechless by the day's events.
"The situation is grave," said William Cross, CEO of CrossGen and the Queen's brother. Cross will temporarily serve as Royal Liaison to the press and will continue to update UNN and other media outlets on the King's condition as it develops.
It is unclear at the moment whether or not Jack Benjamin will take his father's seat as Prince Regent now that Gilboa is without a leader at present.
This catastrophic day couldn't have come at a worse time for the Benjamin family. The King was facing severe criticism for his decision to execute Captain David Shepherd and the brutality with which his forces vacated the remaining families of Port Prosperity in preparation for the handover.
At the same time, King Silas has long been a symbol of courage and hope to his people. And until quite recently, maintained a high approval rating. Regardless of his mistakes, if he loses this battle for survival, he will be mourned by many.
