Peace talks established between Gilboa and Gath

Shiloh (UNN) – In a surprise development, King Silas Benjamin announced suspension of hostilities and the launch of new peace talks between Gilboa and Gath. The proclamation was met with jubilation in the streets of Shiloh as citizens faced the possibility of a new era of peace and prosperity.

"I am in shock," said Marie Carpenter, an accountant who's two children serve at the front lines. "I am almost afraid to celebrate. We've come so close to peace before, only to have our hopes dashed at the last minute. But my heart tells me that this time it's for real."

The ceasefire brings to end a remarkable week in the history of the war. Only days before, a tentative peace accord was announced by the King and Premier Damian Shaw of Gath. But the hope for peace was almost immediately shattered.

Seeking to disrupt the accord, treacherous elements in the Gath military launched a surprise attack on a Gilboan border outpost. King Silas responded to the betrayal by ordering a full-scale invasion of Gath. Despite the promise of peace, the two nations were poised to engage in a new and bloody escalation of the conflict.

Yet those who supported an end to hostilities worked feverishly to change the course of events. Even as Gilboan Air Force jets prepared to bomb the Gath capital, King Silas dispatched Captain David Shepherd to relay a message of reconciliation.

Captain Shepherd rose to national prominence when he single-handedly destroyed a Goliath tank and rescued the King's son Prince Jack Benjamin from Gath captivity. According to sources inside the government, the King decided that Captain Shepherd would be the best envoy for peace.

"Shepherd is loved by Gilboans and feared by the Gath," said a source in the Gilboan Ministry of Defense who asked to remain unnamed. "The King knew that he would be the right man for the job."

The King sent Captain Shepherd into the Neutral Zone with an offer of mutual surrender extended to any among the Gath military who shared a vision for peace and a new future. The young envoy was met by a group of Gath generals, who agreed to a ceasefire.

Shortly thereafter King Silas spoke with Gath Premier Shaw on the phone and agreed to a new round of peace talks at the Vineyard to permanently resolve all disputes between the nations.

As diplomatic negotiations commence, an air of cautious optimism has returned to Shiloh. But not everyone is convinced that the two countries can overcome the legacy of war that has divided them for decades.

"You can't trust the Gath," said Harold Ramer, an electrician with Shiloh Telecom. "They extended an olive branch a few days ago, only to stab us in the back when we put down our guard. Who is to say they won't do it again?"
